A Delightfully Different View of the Hwange National Park

From the DK Tours archive · 03 February 2022

Hwange National Park is undoubtedly one of the most popular safari destinations in Southern African. Home to over 40 000 elephants, all the big cats and more than 400 species of birds it’s easily one a coveted national parks by travellers from all over the world. However, most visitors only ever visit the popular eastern side and few ever get to visit or hear about the Western side of the National Park.

Why You Must Visit This Side of the Park?

This part of Hwange National Park is also known for big populations of reedbuck, roan, sable and tsessebe as well as the usual herds of elephants and other species encountered in the Park. Particularly encouraging are the regular sightings of Leopard, Cheetah and African Wild Dog.

You will only require just about 30 minutes on tarred road from the airport or your hotel in Victoria Falls to get to this park of the park – unlike the main Park entrance which is about two and half hours away. From then you are transferred into a Safari truck straight away, taking you deep into the national park.

Accommodation Options

There are accommodation options but Robins Camp is by far the most iconic and accessible. Robins Camp is close to the western boundary of Hwange and was given to the government in 1939 by a local farmer, Harold Robins

The camp has lodges, chalets and camping sites. In addition, a restaurant, bar, shop and fuel are available. Robins Camp, now under private new management, offers an exciting revival of the iconic safari destination in the Hwange National Park.

Available Packages

You can visit this part of the Hwange National Park as a standalone safari package or as part of a larger comprehensive Travel Package. DK Tours & Safaris is offering you an amazing deal which includes 3 nights at Robins Camps, 3 nights in Victoria Falls – inclusive of a day trip to the Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana.
